| Hello, and welcome to Let's Play Civ 1. This will be a screenshot lp. In case you don't know, Civ is a game where you're the leader of a nation, and simulates all of history. Here's a link.Although this game isn't technically abondonware (You can by a bundle of the first three for, like, $80), it's close enough that you can download it on the intertubes. I'll be playing this game with a few challenges: 1. The only city I'll build is my capital. All other Cities will be conquered from our enemies. 2. We will be bloodthirsty warmongers. So, without farther ado, here's the introduction: I opted to Customize my world. Large land mass, because boats are really annoying in this game. Old planet, so there are less mountains to interrupt our conquering. Everything else, normal. And start! Jk, more introduction. Seriously, what is with this game, me, and introduction? the Earth was without form, and void. This is actually the loading screen, it does this while it creates the world. and deep inside the brittle crust massive forces waited to be unleashed. It's kind of like most of Spore, only you just watch and it's 99% less fun. and great continents were formed. The continents shifted, mountains arose. Earthquakes spawned massive tidal waves. Volcanoes erupted and spewed forth fiery lava and charged the atmosphere with strange gases.I've got news for you: water isn't purple. of Fire and Air and Water the first stirrings of Life appeared: tiny organisms, cells, and amoeba, clinging to tiny sheltered habitats.See, exactly like Spore. Exactly. and strengthened, and spread, and diversified, and prospered, and soon every continent and climate teemed with Life. That dragonfly is HUGE. Easily the size of Texas. and specialization, natural selection, Reptiles, Dinosaurs, and Mammals and finally there evolved a species known as Man and there appeared the first faint glimmers of Intelligence. You think dinosaurs are awesome at ten feet tall? Look at 'em miles high! fire, tools, and weapons, the hunt, farming, and the sharing of food, the family, the village, and the tribe. Now it required but one more ingredient: a great Leader to unite the quarreling tribes to harness the power of the land to build a legacy that would stand the test of time:There Spore, your entire tribal phase abstracted on to one slide. That leader is us, btw. So, that's how we solve the middle east! Build a giant RADAR tower on it! We're almost there, I promise. I opted to play Warlord. I could probably do Prince, but I don't want to get my butt kicked on the Intertubes. Start with seven other nations. More might appear as the game goes on, to replace the ones we kill, but there will never be more then seven. I picked this to give our armies maximum conquering potential. Pick a nation from this list, or press escape to write in your own. I'm leaving this for a vote, so VOTE. I also need a name for our leader (What other people call us.) Unless you have any good suggestions, I'll go with Nameless. I need these to proceed, so update one ends here. Also, I need comments, what you like, what I suck at, etc., etc.

| Alright, time for Update 2; In which we play the game. Because gr33n was the only one to post a name suggestion, our nation's name is: Yeah, I think it's stupid, too. And, I'm our fearless leader! This is the debriefing. You always start with irrigation, mining, and roads. Any more starting technologies are given out randomly. This is a mixed blessing, as any technology you have makes the next one cost more. Here's the land we start at. Note that when you name your own nation, the color is random. It was by pure luck me trying, like, five times, that we got this color. That demon with horns is actually a settler, a unit that builds cities, and some other important stuff. I built out first city right here, so we can get started. As this is the only city we'll build, I named it to go along with our theme. This is the city screen. Let's zoom in, so I can explain. - Game mechanics:
Starting from the map of our surroundings and going clockwise: That's the city map. The tiles with things on them are the tiles we're working. Tiles produce: food, the "bunny ears," which grow the city, sheilds, which make the city build things, and trade the "candle," which is turned into money, science, or happiness at a rate I control. To the right of that is the improvements list. It lists the buildings in your city. Right now the only building we have is the palace, marking this as the capitol of gr33ntopia. Below that, is the production section (OK, most of it. I have a crappy screen-shot program.) Every shield you make goes into the box, and when the box fills up, it produces whatever that label is. Right now, we're working on a militia, the first and weakest unit in the game. To the left of that is the "info" box. Right now, it shows what soldiers we have in the city. It does some other things too, but those are all mostly useless. It says we have a settler, owned by none (NON), but the settler was actually consumed during the city building, and will disappear as soon as I hit space. To the left of that is food storage. Every citizen you have eats two food. Any food that isn't eaten goes into this box. When the box fills, we get a new citizen. Above that is city resources. It shows everything this city's producing. That's pretty much it. I hope I never need to type a wall of text like this again.
Anyway, next I exit this screen, And set our trade to be 10% happiness, 30%, tax and 60% science. Then, I declare the update over. Next time: exploration and SCIENCE! Please post you comments and suggestions!

| Wartime nations don't need to spend money for happiness. That's what the army's for. (Veto) Gameplay explanation: As we're going to be an oppressive dictatorship the whole game, money might be a little tight, but happiness will be easy to come by, thanks to the MILITARY POLICE. | |

| Oh, sorry I wasn't clear.
Right now, we can't do much of anything. There won't be much choice until at least the next update.
This part takes, like, 2 minutes real time, but I'm really busy and can't update.

| Alright, time for update two! Here's what the world looked like when we left off. I hit enter a few times, until something happens. The first thing that happens is science! - Game Mechanics:
Science is what controls your nation's progress from rocks to nuclear weapons. Each technology does something, and almost all unlock other technologies. The first "tech" costs 10 bulbs. The other ones cost (The number you already have) times (A constant based on your difficulty level (8 in our case)) times 2 if the year is after 1 AD.
We go for Bronze Working first, to get bronze units. The next thing that happens is that we finish out first militia. A militia is a really weak soldier. It has one attack strength, one defense strength, and moves one tile a turn. Here's its help file entry: That's pretty much what I said. It first moves away from the city, revealing what was on some of the black squares. Next to it is a hut, which can be good or bad to walk into. We head right for it. It gives us free soldiers. Next we discover Bronze Working, which I didn't remember to get a screenshot of. Here's the help file: We go for the wheel next. I switched L1m3 City's production to a Phalanx, as it's a much better defender. Note that the territory we revealed is now available to use. We explore our island more. Dammit, if we had built L1m3 City one tile to the west, we could build boats in it. Oh well. Hey, another hut! All right, free money! Yeah the circle is the currency in this game. You can buy more-or-less anything if you have enough of it. We complete out first Phalanx. Note that in the box below City Resources, it has a shield below it. - Game Mechanics:
UPKEEP When a unit costs upkeep, a shield is diverted away from the city every turn to support it.
The number of units you can get away with before upkeep becomes a factor is determined by government type. In our government, despotism, each city freely supports as many units as it has citizens before it has to start paying. This is unusually high, which is why we'll probably stay a despotism the whole game.
Anyway, a Phalanx has 2 defense, which is the highest any unit has before Gunpowder. With enough buffs, it actually has a ~30% of beating a modern Tank. Here's the help file: We make L1m3 City build a Barracks next. A Barracks- Ah, I'll just let the help files tell you: Ok, this seems like a good place to wrap. If you want to be named in charge of a unit for story reasons, post a reply. We have: 1st Militia 1st Horseman 1st Phalanx
