Drakojan Skies Saga: Game Review-Neverwinter Edition

My Review: Three years ago, I was introduced to an awesome site called Wintallo, and was further introduced to several games, videos, and pictures my mind could soak in. Ultimately, it was that same instance I met Drakojan Skies, an interesting shooter in the Flash game webosphere. After reading that the series was featured on the British magazine EDGE, I had to give it a shot.

Drakojan Skies opens up with a loader and a unique photo behind it. The first few titles displays a menacing space attack, which led me to presume this was a battle done in space. Same old, same old. However, I can't judge a book by its cover, and Flash games are no exception.

The presentation is phenomenal. The original game starts off with a nice cutscene to tie the setting together. Acolytes, on the other hand, gives a "cutscene" in the game. You first use the mouse to knock the wall down by simple swipes, and the voice-overs and animation in the background take over. It is absolutely stunning and no other game does as great a job as incorporating these elements as Skies does.

The story is excellent as well. You have the option to view the entire backdrop in the Main Menu. Basically, right before a new ruler hits the office, the superpower EDU nearly collapses, and is split in two--causing tension with both sides. Ultimately, they inadvertently attack the Drakojan tribes and immediately destroy the power's reputation as a humaninatarian piece of work.

Controls might take some getting used to for some. They vary between game-to-game, but are simple enough for anyone to grasp. Graphics are, well, okay for it's time. You may see some pixellated artwork at larger views, but it's not an eyesore nor eye candy. Music is well-scored, and well chosen, ranging from epic video games to all-out metal and screamo rock.
